Invented by Pro-Mold in 1991 the mini-snap is a two piece snap design
sports card holder that is
ideal for inexpensive cards. The mini-snap was the first hard plastic
holder to fit into the standard set storage boxes allowing you to keep
complete sets in place with the most expensive cards being preserved in this
holder. The mainstream collector's choice for hard
plastic protection of collectible cards. Beware of cheap
imitations. Available in four different sizes for regular card,
thicker card, real thick card,
and super thick card. The real thick card mini-snap
will hold one real thick card which is equivalent to the thickness of 6 to 8 regular cards.
Strengths: Inexpensive. Small and compact which allows for storage of
many in smaller spaces particularly in standard set storage boxes that hold
complete sets of collectible cards from trading card manufactures like
companies like Topps, Upper Deck, Fleer, and Donruss.
Weaknesses: With it's two piece snap design there is always a chance
that it could come apart if your drop this holder on a hard floor. For real
expensive cards, use a one screw screwdown, or a
four screw screwdown. Some people, like
children, have a hard time opening this card holder. Use a small coin like a dime to wedge it into
the slot on the side of it to open if necessary.
Aliases: Memorabilia Card Holder, Super Thick Card Holder, PC-20.
2. What are the advantages of this card holder
being able to fit into a standard set storage box (100 count to 900 count
cardboard box)? Answer: Many collectors like to collect complete sets
of cards and they put the most expensive cards in the set in a
mini-snap. By doing this set collectors can keep their complete sets in
numerical order and still have the "big money" sports cards preserved in the
mini-snap.
3. What is this holder made out of? PVC? Answer:
This card holder as well as all our other card holders are
made out of polystyrene. Polystyrene is an archival safe raw material and
it contains no hazardous chemicals, PVC or plasticizers.
4. Why should I buy the Pro-Mold Mini-Snap instead of
the competitors? Answer: Many of the competitor's mini-snaps do not
have a precision fit like the Pro-Mold Min-Snap which means they fall apart
a lot easier if they are dropped. The Pro-Mold Mini-Snap is made in America with high quality
raw materials from leading American polymer (plastic) manufactures. Many of
the imported mini-snaps are made from a low grade material using a lot of
regrind which give their parts a blue tint and less optical clarity.
